Project Description

Jinshan Peasant Painting Village

Join your culture expert as we spend the day in the nostalgic countryside on the outskirts of Shanghai. The Jinshan Peasant Painting village is an artist’s hub that developed in the 1950’s as part of country-wide campaign that instructed urban artists to teach farmers how to paint Communist propaganda. After an introduction about this plan and how it evolved into folk art, you’ll meet several local artists, who will share how they developed their own styles. Many of the paintings have a deep connection to the artist’s small-town experiences. For lunch, you’ll be dining at the locally reknowned He Feng Xi Yu boutique restaurant, situated pleasantly among many lotus and fish ponds.

Then we’ll move on to explore FengJing, a charming water town with unexpected venues. Take a scenic boat ride and browse some unusual exhibits such as one of China’s few remaining People’s Communes. Shopping time for folk art and handicrafts included.
