Project Description

LongJing tea culture tour HangZhou

Regional Tea: Longjing (Dragon Well) LongJing-dragon-well-tea

Join us for the day as our English-speaking certified tea and trained tour-specialists guide you through one of China’s most scenic cities – Hangzhou where you will indulge in some of China’s most renown teas such as Long Jing, a type of green tea characterized by its green color, delicate aroma, mellow taste and beautiful shape – learn about various other types of tea as we visit the National Tea Museum; explore a splendid collection of architectural and artistic cultural relics within various Buddhism temples; spend time with a local family as they host an afternoon meal, and end the day with a stroll through the garden-style parks that lines the man-made iconic West Lake.

Your journey begins as we depart from Shanghai HongQiao Railway station on a high-speed train leaving the hustle and bustle of the city life behind – and in barely an hour, our first stop will be the award-winning Hangzhou National Tea Museum- China’s only museum dedicated to tea – which boasts an excellent exhibition of tea, precious tea ware and overall source of history and depiction of the evolution of Chinese tea.

Next, we’ll travel the winding roads of Hangzhou by private car to the quaint YangMeiLing Tea Village where a local Ying family will welcome you as honored guests. We’ll take a short hike up one of many trails the village has to offer to the tea terraces where you’ll be introduced to Long Jing’s infamous culture, history, legends as well as, will learn the ancient skill of harvesting tea leaves.  Enjoy rare photographic moments along the way. Following our visit to the tea terraces, the Ying family will prepare a generous lunch of seasonal cuisine and host a tea tasting lesson to help you determine the different qualities of LongJing tea.

Following lunch, we’ll take a stroll along West Lake’s scenic shores as our guide shares its ancient history and intriguing stories of its legends – such as how the village and the tea took the name Dragonwell! As our tour comes to an end, we’ll then begin our travels back Shanghai. Additional tour add-ons are available and we’ll gladly customize a tour to best suit your tastes as well as, desired experiences. Whether you’re a novice tea drinker or a tea enthusiast, you’re guaranteed to enjoy our well-planned and personalized journeys.

NOTE: Tea harvest season is approximately March 15th – April 15th. During this time frame you’ll witness the elaborate picking and making processes of Longjing tea.
