Project Description

Anji Bai tea culture tour Nanxun

Regional Tea: Anji Bai and Xun Dou anji-bai-tea

Join us for the day as our English-speaking Tea and Chinese Culture Tour Specialists guide you through the vibrant Nanxun Ancient Water Town, one of many small villages that developed along the canals of the Yangtze River Delta. Located only an 1 hour’s drive from Shanghai, the village is best known for its stunning Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, magnificent gardens, beautiful silk sold in markets, and of course tea. Nearly every tea shop in town sells only two teas; Anji Bai also known as Anji White, a green tea with distinctive white leaves and Xun Dou. We’ll taste and learn to distinguish the difference between both. For this signature experience, various activities can be added to enhance your experience and overall understanding of traditional Chinese Culture. Contact us for more details.

Your day-trip begins as your English-speaking Tea and Chinese Culture Tour Specialist collects you from the lobby of your Shanghai City-Center hotel. By way of private car, you’ll travel a short hour drive to Nanxun Water Town, a charming water-town known as ‘the land of fish and rice’ and ‘silk market’, where your journey begins with a stroll through one of the many small villages developed along the canals of the Yangtze River delta nearly a millennium ago. Stunning Ming and Qing dynasty architecture and magnificent gardens are just a few of the sights to see.  Nanxum was built from the profits of wealthy silk merchants who eventually settled in the village towns, bringing with them a western influence. We’re sure to venture through the silk markets; a lovely silk scarf is the perfect souvenir – and we’ll also discover the history, culture, and people of this charismatic community with tours of private venues where only locals are allowed. Following our trek around town, we’ll have a lunch comprised of local specialties and later we’ll relax in one of several tea shops in the town where we’ll taste and learn to tell the difference between the two most widely sold teas; Anji Bai and Xun Dou. This will end our standard tour; however, for a signature experience -additional select activities to enhance your understanding of traditional Chinese are available. Please see below for available options. We’ll gladly customize a tour to best suit your tastes as well as, desired experiences. You’re guaranteed to enjoy our well-planned and personalized journeys.
